magnitude of 7.8Mw or 8.1Ms
The April 2015 Nepal earthquake (Nepali: विसं २०७२ को महाभूकम्प) (also known as the Gorkha earthquake) killed over 8,000 people and injured more than 21,000. It occurred at 11:56 Nepal Standard Time on 25 April, with a magnitude of 7.8Mw or 8.1Ms and a maximum Mercalli Intensity of IX (Violent).
April 25th marks one year since the devastating earthquakes in Nepal. The Apa Sherpa Foundation will be in the Himalayas this April to continue their work that they began a year ago, and to expound on their primary focus which has always been education. Their main objectives for this trip will be to select more teachers to sponsor, visit the remote schools to assess the needs of each building, and meet with a local non-profit organization in Thame; Apa Sherpa’s home village. During their trip, they will also be distributing backpacks and hygiene kits to children of Nepal; the backpacks were generously donated by Thule of Sweden.
